Coaching Litigants

At some point in our lives we all may experience dealings with the judicial court system , whether its a criminal or civil matter. Dealing with  judicial and legal systems can be a somewhat daunting and challenging task for most and something which we may prefer to keep away from; perhaps we don’t understand how to approach the omnipresent legal or judicial system or even cope with it. Yet, it’s unavoidable sometimes, since you deal with issues that need to be resolved in a legal manner or by a court of law and it can all feel way beyond you. It can range from petty traffic offences to tax issues or compensation claims. You may find you have to rely on solicitors and barristers to assert and claim your rights and you probably may spend a large amount of money in the process. You may have difficulty  and hesitancy in explaining to your lawyer exactly what you want and/or how you want your rights to be met.

The mind-set of lawyers, (a general term I use for both solicitors and barristers) can be  difficult to understand, follow and can cause much frustration, anguish and expense to those of us who don’t deal with such people or issues on a day-to-day basis.

Having had extensive experience both on and off the Bench, I know what it can be like for someone not familiar with dealings with the law or such professionals and its relative system.

My way of coaching in this area is in a nutshell, to help you cope, understand and move through the demands on your life that such issues may bring. The coaching in no way interferes, interrupts nor impedes your relationship with your solicitor or barrister, but as in other interpersonal relationship coaching, I help you to understand and prepare for entering such a legal process, and to help you feel more comfortable and confident within the dynamics that may exist  : In such coaching sessions, the coach is still working with a particular individual, so the approach to coaching doesn’t really change. No offer, suggestion of any form of legal advice or direction is provided. These are within the domain and competence of the lawyer.

  • The range of issues that such a coaching session might address could be, for example :

  • Preparing for meetings and collaboration with lawyer

  • İdentifying your real interest and concerns

  • Being comfortable within the legal and judicial environment

  • Communicating effectively with your lawyer

  • Develop better skills in presenting yourself and your wants to your lawyer

  • Managing associated stress

  • Gaining self-confidence and awareness when approaching the legal  or judicial system

  • Exploring and overcoming possible stumbling blocks and beliefs about them.

  • Developing clearer comprehension when dealing with lawyers and the legal mind-set.

  • Being successful and having a life.
